Three men have offered up an honest explanation for why they chose to flee Sydney’s lockdown restrictions - they were bored.

The group - three men aged between 21 and 23 from Merrylands and Auburn - left home for the Jenolan Caves, west of the Blue Mountains, on Friday afternoon.

But their plans unraveled when they attempted to purchase tickets for a tour.

“Staff requested the group to leave on establishing they were from Sydney and police were notified,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“A short time later, police stopped their vehicle and when asked why they had travelled there, allegedly said they were bored.”

They were each issued with $1000 fines and directed to return to Sydney.

“People need to be aware it’s not just a choice about being bored,” NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Gary Worboys told reporters.

“It’s not then just a choice where you might travel that particular day, be aware of the LGA that you live in, where you intend to go, and what the public health orders say.”

In a separate incident, another seven people - five men and two women - were issued $1000 fines for being out of home without reasonable excuse after they were found gathering at an industrial estate on Friday.

A hair salon in Sydney’s south, and two customers, were also fined after officers attended the business and found a customer having her hair coloured and another arriving while police were there.

The Rockdale hair salon was fined $5000 and the customers, $1000 each.

A total of 78 notices were issued on Friday, 48 of which were $200 infringements for failing to wear a fitted face covering.

“Police continue to appeal to the community to report suspected breaches of any ministerial direction or behaviour which may impact on the health and safety of the community,” NSW Police said.
