Woman arrested over 'deliberately lit' fire in Adelaide CBD

A woman has been arrested over a fire that SA police allege was “deliberately lit” in Adelaide’s CBD on Wednesday afternoon.

The fire, at a massage parlour near the corner of Vaughan Place and Rundle St in the heart of Adelaide, started around 6pm.

People had to climb down from the second storey of the building, into the waiting arms of those below to break their fall.

Five people were treated and taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Authorities reported there was $200,000 in damages to electricals, water pipes and services in the building and that five per cent of the premises were ruined.

On Thursday morning, police announced they had arrested a woman over the suspected arson attack.

A 37-year-old woman was arrested by local police for the fire at the Siam Retreat Thai Massage and Spa.

Police are currently questioning her.

She has not yet been charged.

The South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service rushed to the scene.

It took 36 firefighters from nine vehicles and two command vehicles to put out the fire.

Rundle St was closed while firefighters put out the blaze.

After 30 minutes, the fire was extinguished.
