Two men have been charged over the execution-style murder of Sydney underworld figure Mejid Hamzy, who was gunned down two years ago.

The brother of Bassam Hamzy - the head of the Brothers 4 Life gang - was shot dead outside his Condell Park home in Sydney's southwest on October 19, 2020.

The 44-year-old was found critically wounded by emergency services and died at the scene.

"Two men will appear before court ... charged with murder. A third man will be charged with serious drug offences ... and he will also appear before a court," Acting Assistant Commissioner Darren Bennett told reporters on Thursday.

Police believed the murder was part of the long-running turf war between the feuding Hamzy and Alameddine families that involved sizeable drug shipments.

"We will be alleging that the murder of Mejid Hamzy was sanctioned at the highest levels of international organised crime," said Criminal Groups Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor

"The motivation for this murder ... relates to the alleged theft of a large importation of narcotics that entered this country."

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Criminal Groups Squad and the NSW Crime Commission and South West Metropolitan Region established Strike Force Courier to investigate the killing.

Officers attached to Raptor Squad also helped with the investigation.

Since then, strike force detectives have charged two men - aged 38 and 44 - who remain before the courts.

Officers from the Tactical Operations Unit and South West Metropolitan Operations Support Group carried out raids at homes in East Hills, Panania, Bankstown and Padstow just before dawn on Thursday.

Police vision of the high-visibility operation showed three separate arrests at East Hills, Panania and East Hills.

All three men - aged 28, 30, and 34 - were taken to Bankstown Police Station.

The vision also showed police seizing a large amount of cash during the arrests.

Superintendent Taylor stressed the transnational nature of the crime networks that ordered Hamzy's execution.

"The individuals who we believe sanction this murder are international organised crime figures currently not in the country," he said.

Acting Assistant Commissioner Bennett praised the arrests saying it was "a good day for the people of NSW".

He said more raids and arrests were to come in order to "wipe these criminals from Sydney's existence".
