Brawl at NSW’s Lithgow prison leads to emergency response after multiple inmates injured

The prison was placed into lockdown after the violent incident.

Inmate in serious condition after brawl breaks out at Lithgow jail

NSW prison officers have deployed gas to quell a brawl at a maximum-security prison which left one inmate with stab wounds.

Three men were injured in the fight inside a unit of Lithgow Correctional Centre in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney on Tuesday afternoon.

A Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said gas was deployed to safely secure a group of inmates.

When it settled, two inmates aged 40 and 34 were discovered with head injuries and a 35-year-old man with stab wounds that were not considered life-threatening.

The 40-year-old and 34-year-old prisoners were later transferred to Lithgow Hospital, while the 35-year-old inmate was taken to Nepean Hospital.

“Their injuries are not considered life-threatening,” a Corrective Services NSW spokeswoman said.

NSW Police and Corrective Services NSW are investigating the incident.
