Twenty-nine people died with the virus in the 24 hours to 8pm on Tuesday.

Following yesterday’s announcement the state needed just 5535 cases to reach its millionth case.

Despite these big numbers, Wednesday’s cases have only seen a marginal increase since yesterday, with Health Minister Greg Hunt advised there are clear signs that the spread of the Omicron variant is peaking.

It comes after the state government announced that reintroduced restrictions for mask use, hospitality density limits and bans on singing and dancing, due to end on Thursday, would be extended until February 28.
