COVID-19 case in Bondi attended Westfield Shopping Centre, cafe and cinema

A new case of COVID-19 in Sydney has been confirmed - with cinemas, shopping centres and cafes all on high alert.

Alerts issued for over a dozen of exposure sites as Sydney man tests positive to COVID-19

Several venues in Sydney’s eastern suburbs have been placed on high alert for COVID-19 after a new case emerged.

NSW Health on Wednesday confirmed a man in his 60s, who works as a driver transporting international flight crew, tested positive.

He had a saliva test on Tuesday and a follow-up PCR test on Wednesday confirmed his infection.

Urgent investigations and contact tracing are now underway.

Meanwhile, people who attended a number of venues in Sydney are being urged to seek testing and self-isolate immediately.

NSW Health has identified a Sunday screening of the Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard at Cinema 1 in Events Cinema, Bondi Junction, as a close contact venue.

Anyone who attended the venue must contact NSW Health, seek testing and self-isolate for a full fortnight, regardless of the result.

Several other venues have also been identified as exposure sites.

Anyone who attended the following venue should contact NSW Health, seek testing and isolate until NSW Health contacts them.

The venues are:

  • Belle Cafe in Vaucluse on June 11 between 9.15am-9.50am, on June 12 between 10.20am-10.45am and between 1.20pm-1.50pm, on June 13 between 11.30am-12pm and on June 15 between 9.50am-10.25am.
  • Sourdough Bakery in Bondi Junction on June 11 between 12.40pm-1.10pm.
  • David Jones in Bondi Junction on June 12 between 11am-11.40am.
  • Myer Bondi in Bondi Junction on June 12 between 11.40am-12.15pm.
  • Washoku Vaucluse on June 12 between 12pm-1.30pm.
  • Events Cinema (all screenings other than the Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard) on June 13 between 1.30pm-4pm.
  • Rocco’s in Vaucluse on June 14 between 10.55am-11.30am.
  • Celeste Catering Macquarie Park Cemetery Cafe in North Ryde on June 15 between 1pm-1.20pm.

NSW Health says the exposure site list may grow as interviews continue.

It’s the first new local case in NSW in more than a month.
