“I want to express my sympathies and the sympathies of the entire New South Wales Health system and our government to the families of those two ladies,” Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.

“It’s a terrible situation, and you have any loved one pass away at any time is obviously challenging, but in this situation, many of us are feeling it even more.”

Of the new cases, 42 were recorded in western NSW and four new cases were recorded in the state’s far west.

There are now 69 cases in the far west and 495 in the west.

Another 969 were from Greater Sydney, with an additional seven from the Illawarra Shoalhaven area, three from the Hunter New England area and two from the Central Coast.

Eight cases are yet to be assigned to an area.

There are currently 778 COVID cases admitted to hospital, with 125 people in intensive care, including 52 who require ventilation.

Of those in ICU, 110 are not vaccinated, 14 have had one dose of the vaccine and one person is fully vaccinated.

Deputy Chief Health Officer Dr Jeremy McAnulty said health authorities continue to be concerned about several Sydney suburbs including Guildford, Merrylands, Auburn, Granville, Bankstown and Greystanes.

Since the start of the outbreak, more than 17,000 cases of COVID have been recorded in NSW.

More than 129,000 people came forward for tests to 8pm on Friday.

Weddings back on

Couples in NSW who wish to get married will be able to do so within a week after authorities announced weddings are back on.

From Friday September 3, weddings will be permitted to take place.

However, only five guests will be allowed to attend.

“There will be five guests allowed in addition to those who obviously will be necessary for the actual service,” Health Minister Brad Hazzard said.

“I want people to know that if you do wish to get married, you certainly can as of Friday of this week.”
