Sydney train delays from industrial action set to end as NSW government, union reach deal

Sydney commuters are set to enjoy the end of industrial dispute-related interruptions after the NSW government and rail union reached a deal.

The state government and rail workers, who have been in dispute for two years over pay and safety issues with a fleet of new inner city trains, finally came to an agreement on Friday evening.

The dispute had prompted repeated industrial action by the union, causing interruptions and delays across the Sydney network.

Travel on Sydney trains had been made free this week as the government looked to avoid further industrial action,

The impasse has largely been put down to rail workers’ safety concerns on the new Intercity Fleet as well as wage demands.

Combined Rail Unions members are now set to vote on the agreement.

The unions have agreed to shelve any industrial action ahead of the vote.
