Man allegedly abducted and stabbed when hire car stolen from Melbourne suburb of Preston

The 18-year-old was taken to hospital with injuries to his face after he was stabbed in the incident.

Charges have been laid over an alleged abduction and stabbing in Melbourne’s northeast

At about 9.40pm on Sunday, a hire company called police to report a silver Hyundai stolen from Mitchell St in Northcote.

The company provided an exact location of the vehicle and police called in the Air Wing and dog squad.

An 18-year-old with injuries to his face was later seen getting out of the vehicle at the intersection of High and Bell streets.

Police believe he had been abducted and stabbed and he was rushed to hospital.

It is unknown whether the young man was dragged into the car, or if he was already inside when it was allegedly stolen.

Police then set up tyre deflation devices on Barrow St in Preston, causing the Hyundai to crash into a parked car.

Air Wing then tracked the alleged thieves as they bolted from the car and they were arrested.

A 20-year-old man from Northcote was charged with theft of a motor car and he has been bailed to appear in court on February 12.

Police also charged a 17-year-old boy from Ivanhoe with theft of a motor vehicle, committing an indictable offence on bail, failing to stop on police direction, failing to stop at a collision and unlicensed driving.

He is expected to front a children’s court later on Monday.

An 18-year-old Preston woman has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, possessing a drug of dependence and committing an indictable offence while on bail. She is expected to appear before the Heidelberg Magistrates’ Court also on Monday.

A 16-year-old girl from Heidelberg Heights was released pending further inquires.
