Following inquiries, the man was found at a cafe in Brighton Le Sands at about 11.50am.

He was arrested, as were three others who were with him at the time - two men and a woman.

“The man was under no risk of harm and showed no signs of injury,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Police will allege the man attempted to extort money from people known to him while falsely claiming to be a victim of an assault and kidnapping.”

The Toongabbie man was later charged with a number of offences, including giving false information and making a false representation resulting in a police investigation.

He’s also been accused of using a ‘carriage service’ to menace or harrass.

The man was refused bail and is set to face court on Wednesday.

His companions were released without charge.
