Charges over northern NSW shooting spree

A 63-year-old man who allegedly shot at four homes and a police car in a shooting spree at Dunoon in northern NSW has been charged.
A man has been arrested after he allegedly shot at four houses in northern NSW.

A man who allegedly shot at four homes and a police car in a shooting spree in northern NSW has been charged with firearm offences.

Police allege the 63-year-old shot at four houses in Dunoon, 20km north of LIsmore, about 9pm on Saturday, with no injuries reported.

Shots were then allegedly fired at an arriving police car, causing major damage and prompting police officers to seek cover in their vehicles.

No police were injured as the car was "peppered with bullets".

Police said that during the operation, more than 20 shots were allegedly fired, with the town's residents instructed to remain in their homes.

The 63-year-old man was arrested about midnight at a Rayward Road property and charged with eight firearm charges.

He has been refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court on Monday.

Police said they had established a number of crime scenes around Dunoon and had located a shotgun and spent cartridges in the Rayward Road home.
