Parents lay trap for man suspected of grooming young daughter

A teenage girl’s parents have performed a citizen’s arrest on a man accused of grooming the girl online and sexually assaulting her.

Jamil Ahmed Chowdhury, 22, allegedly began messaging the 14-year-old on Instagram in December before the teenager’s mother uncovered their conversation.

“Found a couple of messages on social media where alarm bells started to ring like in my head,” the girl’s mother told 7NEWS.

Chowdhury was allegedly warned to stay away but is accused of creating another account and reconnecting.

The girl’s family then took matters into their own hands, pretending to be her and “luring” him over to their Villawood home on Monday.

“As a mum I had to take this precaution, I had to go to this extent,” the girl’s mother said.

An unsuspecting Chowdhury attended the home, where the parents performed a citizen’s arrest.

In a video captured of the arrest, the girl’s father can be heard shouting at him in fury.

The girl’s father said they locked Chowdhury inside the house after he entered.

“And when he came in I got behind my daughter, closed the door, locked it and grabbed him in the neck,” he said.

Police were called to the home and Chowdhury was formally arrested.

He was subsequently charged and the 22-year-old faced Fairfield Local Court on Tuesday where he was refused bail.

The court was told that Chowdhury denied all charges against him during his police interview.

He claimed his alleged victim had signed into his accounts and faked the conversations - a version the magistrate said lacked credibility.

The alleged victim’s mother now has a message for all other parents.

“Please I urge every parent who has social media, has younger kids, please keep track of your kids,” she said.
