Dramatic arrest in Adelaide’s CBD as man waving ‘Samurai sword’ is tackled by cop

A man allegedly waving a Samurai sword at people in the heart of Adelaide had to be tackled before he was arrested.

The 25-year-old man was arrested in Rundle Street about 12.30am on Friday.

Police raced to the area following reports the man was threatening pedestrians and passing cars with the weapon.

An officer tackled the man and placed him under arrest.

There were no injuries to either the public, police or the suspect.

The man was charged with with aggravated assault, carrying an offensive weapon and unlawful possession.

He is expected to be refused bail to appear at Adelaide Magistrates Court later on Friday.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is being urged to come forward.
