A young Victorian returning from a New South Wales hotspot has tested positive to COVID-19.
On Tuesday, the Department of Health and Human Services confirmed the new case had been acquired interstate and contact tracing is underway.
Victoria’s Health Minister Martin Foley said the 15-year-old female is from the Moonee Valley Local Government Area and had drove home from Sydney with her mother.

“They have isolated when they returned to Victoria and as a result of the awareness of the situation in Sydney, the young person has sought testing,” he said.
“Given the family were isolating at home, at this point, there are no known exposure sites in Victoria.”
Foley said the health department have interviewed all of the close contacts of the family.
On their drive back to Victoria, the pair stopped “briefly” in the NSW town of Gundagai. They visited Oliver’s Real Food Outlet mid to late afternoon on December 18. Advice will be going out to residents in the area.
Victoria has not broken its 53 consecutive days of zero local transmission as the case acquired the virus from interstate and are in quarantine.
“Close contacts are currently understood to be limited, with contact tracing underway and further investigations ongoing,” the DHHS tweeted.
“At this stage there are no exposure sites but if this changes we will provide further updates.

“Anyone who has returned from the Northern Beaches area, Greater Sydney or the Central Coast needs to get tested and quarantine for 14 days.”
There are now 11 active cases in the state, with ten of them internationally acquired.
NSW COVID cluster
There were 8 new cases of community transmission in the 24 hours to 8pm Monday night. There are 10 cases in overseas returned travellers, as first reported by 7NEWS.
Of the 8 cases, 7 were linked to the Avalon (Northern Beaches) cluster the other one is thought to be acquired overseas.
That comes on the back of 15 new cases reported from a record 38,000 test results a day earlier.
There were a record 44,000 tests carried out across NSW.
