The case is a close relative of an 81-year-old man who tested positive on Monday, he told FIVEaa.

Two of the man’s close contacts, a man and a woman in their 50s, have already tested positive for the virus.

Marshall announced new restrictions for the state on Monday, over fears the COVID-positive man was infectious in the community for as long as five days.

The man is believed to have the Delta variant of the virus.

SA COVID-19 restrictions

The restrictions, which began from midnight on Monday include the closure of all non-essential retail.

The four-square-metre rule has also been brought back with seated food and beverage consumption and outdoor dining only.

Masks are now mandatory in all indoor public places, including public transport, and outdoors where social distancing is not possible.

Indoor fitness venues are shut, as are personal care services such as nail salons, hairdressers, and beauty spas.

SA residents are being urged to work from home if possible, but schools will remain open.

No team or club sport will be allowed and a maximum of 10 people will be allowed to attend private gatherings.

“We’ve only got one chance to get this right,” Marshall said on Monday.

“We are very concerned. We are treating this as the Delta variant. We are going to go hard and go early.”

The restrictions will be reviewed on Friday.
