A man is behind bars for allegedly shooting his girlfriend’s former partner after catching them together.

Emergency services were called to a property in Cambridge Gardens, west of Sydney around 11pm on Thursday night.

There, they found Brad Egan, 34, nursing a gunshot wound to his leg.

Adel El-Khodr, 42, was taken into custody and accused of carrying and shooting an unauthorised weapon, which carries a maximum sentence of 25 years’ jail.

Neighbour Wissam Ghanem said he heard a “big argument” before gunshots and screaming.

Jasmine Serdiuk is the woman caught in between the two men.

She attended court on Friday in support of El-Khodr, saying he was not a violent man and that she stands by him.

But police have made it clear the alleged behaviour is “ridiculous”.

“When you fire a weapon like that indiscriminately at someone, the ramifications can be fatal as we all know,” Acting Superintendant Jason Pietruska said.

“For the injury just to be non-life-threatening is more good luck rather than anything else.”

El-Khodr made no application for bail.

He’ll return to court in April.
