An Adelaide Christmas event has been shut down in response to social media backlash, with refunds offered to those left disappointed.

Santa’s Winter Village at Noarlunga, at the Colonnades Shopping Centre, was pitched as a “unique white Christmas to remember”.

But for some who’ve visited, it was one they’d rather forget.

The event promised a special Christmas ice show, “Polar Express train ride on a snowy trail through an Enchanted Forest”, ice skating, a giant Candy Cane Lane game and an Amazing Maze.

Tickets were priced at $38.50 for those aged 3 and above or $138 for a family of four.

But images show a number of makeshift activities including a Gopher-driven sleigh, metal barrier-made maze and ‘Candy Cane Lane’ made from cardboard boxes and paper decorations.

One mum took to Facebook to vent her frustration at the “woeful” setup and urged others to reconsider visiting the venue, while others said “not to waste your money”.

“If you’re thinking of buying tickets, don’t,” one wrote.

“The maze is literally security fencing covered in tinsel.”

Organiser Lorraine Malone told 7NEWS she felt she had been targeted by trolls and that people had taken photos of “empty spaces” between activities to misrepresent the event.

On Thursday, Malone told 7NEWS her landlord called for the Winter Village to be torn down in the wake of the criticism.

Colonnades Shopping Centre said it had been in contact with organisers in recent days over concerns regarding the setup, which “did not meet expectations”.

“We have arranged with the team at The Ice Skating Edge to close Santa’s Winter Village today, step selling tickets to the event and arrange refunds for those who have been disappointed by the event,” the Centre said in a statement.

“We’ve listened to your feedback and we agree, Santa’s Winter Village does not meet the expectations of our customers [or] the broader community.

“We apologise for the disappointment and inconvenience this has caused our customers.”

Malone said she was trying to keep positive in the face of negative criticism but felt “robbed” by those claiming the event, which cost upwards of $100,000 to set up, was not worth the admission.

She claimed the “troll” who had targeted her event was hacking other people’s Facebook pages to spread misinformation.

In justifying the price, Malone said the Polar Express ride was the “first one ever in Australia” and the activities offered provided bang for visitors’ bucks.

“If someone brought their children ice skating, it’s normally $16,” she said.

“On top of that, they’ve got nine other things that they can do.”

The festive furore has trickled across the city, with organisers of Santa’s Wonderland at the Adelaide Showground saying they have copped backlash from people mistaking theirs for the cancelled Colonnades event.

A spokesperson for the rival wonderland told 7NEWS they were empathetic toward those seeking refunds but said the $3 million Showground extravaganza had no connection to Santa’s Winter Village.

Anyone seeking a refund for the Noarlunga event is being urged to contact the team at The Ice Skating Edge at info@theiceskatingedge.com.au.
